The History Tour day 2

June 16. Today we toured around Independence Hall. The weather forecast called for thunderstorms, but they never happened. It was hot and very humid. We started our day at the liberty bell. The line to see it was very long. So we thought about coming back to it later. We did some of the walking tour
http://www.theconstitutional.com/tours/self-guided-tours and had a timeslot to visit Independence Hall. So we visited Carpenters Hall and paid our respects at the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier, before stopping into Independence Hall. I really enjoyed learning about the declaration of independence and the constitution. Now that my kids have seen where America was born, I hope they appreciate and remember what our forefathers went through to make this the country we live in today. After lunch we stopped by the liberty bell and the line was very short. So we went in to see it. We couldn't touch it, but the history jumped out at me. We headed towards the Betsy Ross house. We stopped at the Philadelphia mint and watched money being made. It was pretty cool. I felt like I was in Tillamook watching cheese be made. The difference was, NO Ice cream :(  We stopped by the Betsy Ross house and it was baking inside. We got stuck behind a couple of groups and waited a long time to get through. The next on our agenda was to see the Rocky Steps. We ran up the steps and took each other's pictures. Was cool to finally see them. The next stop was Genos for cheese steaks. I couldn't eat them, because of my gluten issues. Mary and the kids did though. They loved them. I found a gluten free cheese steak at place at the Italian market. But when we got there, they were closed :(  At each of the buildings we entered during our tour, there were security checks. At the Liberty Bell a woman was going through my backpack and her phone ring tone started . It was hilarious. It wasn't a ring, but a funny voice. It was something like this "Answer  your phone. I know you want to answer your phone. Come on, answer your phone. You really want to answer your phone. " and it went on for about 30 seconds or so. It was a fun moment that had everyone busting out laughing. Now on to Lancaster and a visit with Cousin Jan, Michael and Devin.

In Independence Hall. The single chair in the back is the actual chair that George Washington sat in. The rest of the furniture were of the era, but probably not the original for the room.

The US Mint. We weren't supposed to take pictures inside. So this is all I got.

Betsy Ross house. Was a bit disappointing to go in. Would have been fine just viewing outside.
